Ethan Russo Looks ‘Beyond Cannabis’ | O’Shaughnessy’s

Ethan Russo forwards a slightly revised “Beyond Cannabis: Plants and the endocannabinoid system,” published in Trends in Pharmacological Sciences, with “the hope that this will raise consciousness on the endocannabinoid system and its importance and ubiquity.”Russo was an early proponent of the idea that an overall endocannabinoid deficiency —insufficient “endocannabinoid tone”— may be responsible for various maladies.  In the new paper he defines  endocannabinoid tone as “a function of the density of cannabinoid receptors, their functional status (upregulated or downregulated) and relative abundance or dearth of endocannabinoids.”
